How soft PVC charms are made

Drip molding builds each charm one color at a time. This is how your artwork becomes a finished charm in our factory, and how long each step takes.

The steps

Everything after the mold happens in our factory in Shishi.

  1. Artwork check

    We check the size, the number of colors, line widths and small details, and suggest changes where the process needs them.

  2. Mold

    A specialist mold maker makes one mold per design from the approved artwork.

    2–3 days

  3. Color mixing

    We mix soft PVC to your Pantone references. More than 600 color formulas are on file.

  4. Molding

    Liquid soft PVC is applied into the mold color by color, layer by layer, on 28 production machines.

  5. Curing

    Heat cures the layers into one flexible charm with raised outlines and smooth color areas.

  6. UV printing

    Text, fine lines and gradients that are too small to mold are printed on top, when the design needs it.

  7. Backing

    The button backing is attached to the back so the charm pushes into clog-style shoes and stays put.

  8. Inspection and packing

    We check appearance, size and the backing, then pack in bulk, in clear bags or on backing cards.

What drip molding does well

  • Bold shapes with clear outlines
  • Solid, saturated color areas
  • Raised layers that you can feel
  • Soft, flexible charms that bend instead of crack
  • Glitter and glow-in-the-dark PVC mixed into a color layer

Where it needs help

  • Very thin lines and small gaps cannot hold liquid PVC; we thicken them.
  • Small text is UV-printed instead of molded.
  • Gradients become two or three color steps, or they are UV-printed.
  • Every extra color is an extra layer, so many colors cost more than a larger size does.
